Night and Day

I was taking to a single friend of mine the other day and it was very enlightening. She’s 35, single, never married and also Mormon(we're both members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints), but other than that she’s nothing like me.

We were talking about dating she has no interest in anyone in a cowboy hat, that likes Rodeos, or Monster Trucks. Well, I guess that’s a good thing, as we’re not looking for the same man.  Maybe I’m just not your typical woman.  Given a choice I’d rather see the next Bourne Movie verses the new Les Miserables Movie.  (I'm pretty sure her an my other girlfriends are going to line up to see the movie.) Yes, I saw the show on Broadway and it was good, but I just have no interested in running out and seeing the movie. On the other hand I’m a sucker for a good Christmas or puppy movie.  I can’t wait to see the new Santa Paws movie that just came out Given a choice of going to visit a museum or watch a rodeo or Monster truck show I’m choose the last two. Don’t get me wrong Museums have there purpose.  Like somewhere to go when it’s raining.  Actually my girlfriend and I are going to one today.  Mostly I’m just going to spend time with her, but there is a show I actually want to see.  And you will find my roommate at the Museums, plays ect.  I do enjoy a good play and have gone to a ton as my old boss owned the building that housed a playhouse.  My favorite plays are good fast past comedies.  On the other hand if my man doesn't want to go to a play with me that's ok. I have tons of friends to go with and in the long run it's cheaper if we're married as we only have to buy one ticket.

We were talking about going to the temple and I told her that I used to work at the temple and we were instructed that if you have a current temple recommend that it doesn’t matter what the person is wearing to greet them graciously and let them in.  The thing is we have no idea of the person’s circumstances. The temple I worked at was near the airport, so we have no idea if their flight was delayed and they were looking for something to do, or while they were on vacation they just happened to drive by and thought wouldn’t it be nice to stop in, or they may be having a horrible day and thought in the middle of their gym work out I really should go to the temple today.  Don’t get me wrong I do agree that out of respect we “should” dress nice as we enter the lord’s house and I usually do dress up when I go to the temple, but then there are other times when I’m out and about and I think I really should go to the temple and I go.  I think of it this way. If you saw a kid drowning in pool would you take the time to run home or go out and buy a swim suit, get a tan, shave your legs, ect before you jumped in and saved the kid? I’m pretty sure you’d say no, you’d jump in with all of your clothing on, with your wallet and cell phone in your pockets.  That’s how I feel about going to the temple. If I’m prompted to go to the temple or any church event and I’m not dressed as I “should” be as dictated by society I will still go. On the other hand my roommate will either not go or stop by the store and buy the appropriate clothing.

I just this goes to show don’t judge a book by its cover or it’s religion.
